Freya’s 2nd

Schiit Introduces Freya 2 with Fusion Architecture, Tube and Solid State Flexibility

September 30, 2026, San Antonio, Texas. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Freya 2, the second generation of its popular Freya preamplifier. This all-new product features Schiit’s exclusive Fusion Architecture for unparalleled tube and solid-state flexibility, enabling all-tube, hybrid, and all solid-state configurations, as well as passive. Freya 2 is available now from $999, including tubes.

“Freya 2 is a completely different product than the previous Freyas,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s co-founder and head of analog development. “It incorporates Fusion Architecture, which means you can use it as an all-tube preamp, or you can use tubes only for voltage gain or current gain, or you can go all solid-state—all in the same topology.”

The advantage of Fusion Architecture is two-fold. One, it allows customers to choose a mode that works best for their system. They’re not locked into a tube, tube hybrid, or solid state preamp—they can try each and decide which they like best, or use them conditionally—such as choosing solid state for background music, to preserve tube life.

“One of the keys to Fusion Architecture is that it only uses the tubes you are using,” said Jason. “As in, if you’re only using tubes in voltage gain, they’re the only ones that are powered up. If you’re using no tubes, the tubes aren’t powered at all—no heater, no high voltage rail, completely off.”

Freya 2 comes with a set of 4 new production tubes, but many customers choose valuable “new old stock” tubes for their listening, so the provision to preserve tube life is important.

Beyond Fusion Architecture, Freya 2 is also one of the highest quality preamplifiers available. With volume control via a relay-switched resistor ladder, there are no potentiometers or ICs in the signal path. Customers can choose passive mode to use the relay ladder directly and bypass gain completely. High-quality Wima capacitors, MELF resistors, NEC relays, and Neutrik connectors preserve signal integrity, and the 100% linear power supply is internal and features two independent transformers to serve the needs of Freya 2’s tubes, solid state, and oversight functions.

As a differential, balanced design, Freya 2 offers both balanced and single-ended inputs and outputs; it does not “cheat” and convert balanced to single-ended internally, maintaining balanced inputs in their most pure form.

Freya 2 offers many convenience features, including physical front panel controls for common functions, as well as an IR remote. Freya 2 also includes a Forkbeard module, for app-based advanced control, including balance. Balance is implemented in Freya 2 as a pure analog function, via independent control of the relay ladders for each channel. Forkbeard also integrates with almost 20 other Schiit products to provide additional unique functions and insight, such as Visual Volume and Continuous Class A Monitoring.

Freya 2 is available now at $999 in black finish and $1049 in silver at schiit.mom.

Schiitr's back!

Schiit Authorizes first “Schiitr At Large” in Northeast

June 24, 2026, San Antonio, Texas. Today, Schiit Audio announced the first independent retail showroom for its products, Boutique Audio Temple, located in New Hampshire. This appointment-only venue offers a carefully curated selection of ourelectronics for audition in a natural, in-home setting.

“We’re excited about this ‘BAT-Schiitr,’ said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder. “Traditional retail doesn’t work for our direct-sale model, so a showroom approach makes a lot of sense.”

Customers will be able to hear Schiit’s top-end and mid-range 2-channel components in conjunction with speakers by Eminent Technology and Paradigm, with others to soon follow. The in-home listening room also allows them to hear it

much more like they would experience in their own environment, eliminating much of the uncertainty that comes with a traditional multi-brand dealer.

At launch, Schiit gear available to hear includes a complete Forkbeard “gigastack” of Wotan, Tyr F, Kara F, Yggdrasil Singular, as well as a more accessible systems including Loki Max F, Mimir, Sys, Modi, EITR, and BUF, etc.

“We’ve been doing high-end audio for decades”, said Dave Wagner, Boutique Audio Temple’s founder. “But today’s high-end retailers and manufacturers’ business models have exploded the price of entry beyond rational comprehension. Schiit’s American- made quality and value is a real-game changer in our experience. We’re proud to be able to offer the two channel Schiit product line to today’s clientele chasing world-class sound at prices today’s younger generations can actually afford.”

“This type of in-home showroom is exciting,” said Jason. “At Sumo, one of our most successful dealers—both in terms of satisfaction and sales—used this exact model.”

For orders, customers are encouraged to place an order via Boutique Audio Temple, for which they will receive free shipping. And in most cases, they can take advantage of tax-free New Hampshire.

Boutique Audio Temple does not currently choose to carry any of Schiit’s dedicated headphone products, choosing to focus on speaker-driven systems. LP aficionados can listen to a SOTA Star Sapphire III/SME309/Hana Turntable system via a Schiit Stjarna as well, in addition to digital via Yggdrasil, etc. They offer customers the ability to listen to music of their choice (CD, Streaming, LP’s) in service of their BAT mission: “At the concert, but in YOUR room”.

“We’re hoping that Boutique Audio Temple isn’t the only ‘Schiitr at large.’" said Jason. "We want organic growth. We’re not going to be forcing anyone to carry the whole line, or even specific parts of the line. If they’re excited about certain gear, that’s what they should concentrate on.”

Schiit continues to evaluate its own captive retail store, a successor to the original Schiitr, with a tentative plan for an Austin-area outlet in 2027. Schiit also welcomes others who would like to do their own Schiitr-at-large. Interested parties should contact Denise Martin, denise@schiit.mom.

To make an appointment to hear Schiit 2-channel gear in the northeast, contact Boutique Audio Temple at sales@boutiqueaudiotemple.com or www.boutiqueaudiotemple.com.

A Helpful Imp

Imp Helps Tube Amps Drive Difficult Headphones

June 24, 2026, Corpus Christi, Texas. Schiit Audio announced today the immediate availability of Imp, a standalone impedance multiplier designed to help tube amps drive difficult headphone loads. It also includes a 4.4mm true balanced output with up to 20V RMS of voltage output. Imp is $99 and includes a TRS-to-TRS cable for connecting to virtually any tube headphone amp.

“Many tube amps have a hard time driving low-impedance, low-efficiency headphones,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder. “That’s why we included an internal impedance multiplier on Folkvangr and Valhalla 3. Now, we’re bringing that technology to virtually any tube amp. Connect it to Imp, and even the weakest OTLs will drive difficult planars.”

Imp, Jason emphasized, is not a buffer. It works in parallel with the tube amp. The tube amp is still connected directly to the headphones, but Imp is doing 8x the work.

“That way, a 32 ohm load—difficult for many OTL tube amps—looks like a 256 ohm load, which is a lot more comfortable,” Jason said.

Imp is designed to reflect the characteristics of the tube amp it’s connected to, rather than imparting a particular flavor. A tube amp connected via Imp gives exactly the same distortion profile, preserving the sound of the tube.

Imp connects to the headphone output of most tube headphone amps using a supplied TRS to TRS cable.

In addition to impedance multiplication, Imp also provides a true balanced output via a 4.4mm TRRRS connector. This allows easy interface of single-ended tube amps to popular balanced headphones.

Imp can be bypassed easily with a front panel button, to easily accommodate headphones that don’t need impedance multiplication, such as 300 and 600 ohm models.

Despite its low price, Imp uses high-quality parts, including a 100% linear power supply, and the signal path is entirely DC-coupled.

Like all Schiit products, Imp is made in the USA on our own SMD assembly line in Corpus Christi, Texas. The chassis is made in California.

Imp is backed by an industry-leading 3-year warranty.

Imp is available now at schiit.mom for $99.

Vestri? I Hardly Knew Ye!

Introducing Vestri, the only Mesh™ Portable

May 15, 2026, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio debuted Vestri at CanJam Singapore, and opened pre-orders for shipments beginning on May 28. Vestri provides balanced and single-ended headphone outputs, touch controls, and conveniences like our exclusive Loudness contour. Featuring Schiit’s exclusive Unison USB™ receiver and unique Mesh™ D/A conversion with time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter, Vestri offers sonic performance far above its peers.

“I joke when I say ‘Vestri is the only dongle that matters,’” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder. “Which is beyond cheeky, but in a field of 10,000 lookalike products all using the same off-the-shelf technology, it has a grain of truth.”

In addition to Schiit’s exclusive Mesh and Unison USB digital technology, Vestri also includes a unique balanced- or single-ended output stage, with 4.4mm balanced and 1/8” single-ended headphone jack. With up to 400mW available through the balanced output, Vestri drives virtually all headphones to their peak of performance.

Vestri is a fully modern design, with a seamless milled aluminum chassis and glass front, with touch controls and no moving parts. However, unlike other portables, Vestri doesn’t use an OLED screen.

“No screens,” Jason said. “Screens burn in and are a wear item. We want to design for the next generation, not the next sale.”

Instead, Vestri uses individual lighting LEDs embedded below the glass, run so conservatively that they will almost literally last forever.

“It’s the ‘eternal screen’,” Jason joked. “If you don’t drop it in the sand or in your coffee, Vestri should last far past its warranty.”

Vestri offers an industry-leading 2-year warranty.

Unison USB ensures that Vestri simply plugs in and works seamlessly with modern phones, tablets, and even computers and streamers. Controls include volume, Loudness, invert, and NOS modes, all accessible via touch.

Also unlike most portables, Vestri is made in the USA on Schiit Audio’s own SMD assembly line in Corpus Christi.

“We’ve been making products in the USA since we started in a garage 16 years ago,” said Jason Stoddard. “No need to change anything for Vestri.”

Vestri is available now at schiit.mom for $99.

Tubes Anywhere

Introducing Buf, a flexible, affordable tube buffer

April 29, 2026, Corpus Christi, Texas. Schiit Audio announced today the immediate availability of Buf, a $99 tube buffer designed to wreck the measurements of high-measuring gear (and perhaps bring some musical enjoyment back into that kinda gear).

“That’s cheeky, but essentially correct,” said Jason Stoddard, immediately after writing the above words. “Buf is a tube buffer. It adds a ton of low-order harmonic distortion, without adding a bunch of noise. It destroys the big perfect of ‘measurement gear.’ At the same time, lots of people, including those who use Audio Precisions all day, think it sounds better. So we figured we’d make this thing and let you find out for yourself.”

Despite its low price, Buf isn’t a toy. It’s a serious tube buffer, with 100V on the plate, 100% linear power supply, high-end parts like Panasonic film caps, and unique Schiit Coherence™ topology, which maintains absolute phase and even allows for switchable gain.

“It’s not just another cathode follower,” explained Jason Stoddard. “It’s more akin to our Lyr and Vali tube amps, but it’s different than both—a simple Class A stage optimized for line level use, rather than driving headphones.”

Buf connects into virtually any system—RCA in, RCA out—and is easily bypassably simply by turning it off. When turned off, Buf connects the inputs directly to the outputs with a relay, a complete bypass.

Unlike many tube buffers, at any price, Buf also allows for gain. Buff offers either 0dB or 12dB of gain, selectable via a front panel switch. This allows for more flexibility in many systems.

Like all Schiit products, Buf is made in the USA on our own SMD assembly line in Corpus Christi, Texas. The chassis is made in California.

Buf is backed by an industry-leading 3-year warranty, excluding the tube, which is covered by a 90-day warranty.

Buf is available now at schiit.mom for $99.

Forkbeard Everywhere

Introducing the Eitr 2 Forkbeard-Enabled DDC

March 25, 2026, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Eitr 2, a Forkbeard-enabled DDC that converts computers, tablets, and phones to perfect digital sources, and, with the addition of a Forkbeard module, converts DACs to complete digital preamps with volume, balance, parametric EQ, and loudness controls.

“You can forget about expensive USB converters and giga-priced streamers now,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s Co-Founder. “Eitr 2 gives you verifiably perfect AES and SPDIF conversion.”

Plug in almost any computer, tablet, or phone into Eitr 2’s Unison USB input, and it converts to AES, coaxial, or optical output. These three outputs provide the flexibility to be used with virtually any DAC.

“But that’s just the start,” Jason continued. “Order it as a “Digital Preamp” and we add a standard Forkbeard module, so Eitr 2 transforms your DAC into a complete digital preamp. And that goes for pretty much any DAC ever made. If you’re curious about what that old NOS DAC would sound like in a modern system, or if you just have a more modern DAC you want to use in a second system, Eitr 2 is the perfect answer.”

With Forkbeard, Eitr 2 provides:

  • Remote control of
    • Volume
    • Balance
    • Parametric EQ
    • Loudness
  • Integration with 17 other Forkbeard-enabled Schiit products

Forkbeard is the only integrated control system that improves your audio experience. It supports an infinite number of products in an infinite number of systems. Setup is instantaneous, doesn’t require pairing, and doesn’t require account creation. No customer data is collected. Forkbeard’s iOS or Android app is free.

“And now, with Eitr 2, we’ve taken a big step towards ‘Forkbeard Everywhere,’” added Jason.

Eitr 2’s power requirements are as flexible as its applications. Eitr 2 can be powered by the USB connection, for a simple, transportable system. Or, if a zero-power-draw USB connection is needed, Eitr 2’s Linear Override power supply uses a standard 6VAC wall-wart to provide power.

Eitr 2 is produced in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Schiit’s own dedicated SMD line, and assembled into chassis produced in California. Schiit is the only US audio company with a state-of-the-art robotic SMD line in-house, which provides us unparalleled production flexibility.

As with all Schiit products, every Eitr 2 is tested with instruments and ears as part of QC. Eitr 2 features an industry-leading 3 year warranty.

Eitr 2 is available now in two versions:

1. Converter Only, $99, which converts USB to AES, coax, and optical outputs.

2. Digital Preamp, $149, which adds a Forkbeard module for app-based digital preamp controls.

Lyr 5: Forkbeard™ Enabled

Hybrid Tube or Solid State Headphone Amp adds Forkbeard, Continuity A in Comprehensive Redesign

March 18, 2026, San Antonio, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Lyr 5, its first Forkbeard-enabled headphone amp. Lyr 5 brings Continuous Class A Monitoring to Forkbeard, allowing owners to better understand the performance of their system. Together with Forkbeard's integration with other Schiit products, a Lyr 5 stack provides additional advanced features such as Visual Volume. Lyr 5 provides both tube and solid state gain, 6W of output power through both 1/4" and 4.4mm jacks, Schiit's exclusive Continuity A output stage, and relay ladder volume. Lyr 5 is available now from $799 at schiit.mom.

"Lyr 5 is the most advanced product we've done in this desktop size," said Jason Stoddard, Schiit's co-founder. "Our first headphone amp with Forkbeard lets people see if they are running in Class A, AB, or getting close to the limit--something that no other headphone amp can do. And, it's a retro-technological tour de force, combining mechanical relay switching and tactile knobs and buttons with the latest app-based control."

Lyr 5 provides owners with the choice of running with either tube or solid state gain, in an exclusive topology that Schiit calls Coherence™. When the tube isn't in use, it's completely shut down, with no power to either the heaters or high voltage rails. This preserves life, without having to remove the tube from the amp.

"Tube or solid state mode switching isn't just changing from one topology to another," added Jason. "It switches out, in near real time, the tube gain element with depletion-mode MOSFETs. These are the closest modern device to a tube. So you're listening to the same topology, just either with tube or solid state gain."

Lyr 5 also has advanced protection and convenience features, including current, temperature, and DC oversight, and full microprocessor control, making it a powerful and safe amplifier for anyone's most treasured headphones.

Forkbeard integration means Lyr 5 can be "stacked" with a DAC such as Mimir, or any of Schiit's Forkbeard-enabled DACs, to create a complete, compact system that encompasses D/A conversion and parametric EQ, in addition to Lyr's amplification capability. As an added bonus, Visual Volume is enabled for these systems, which allows the owner to see the ranges on the volume control that may cause the system to clip. This provides an unparalleled level of system insight.

Lyr 5 includes everything an owner needs to get up and running quickly, including a tube and the Forkbeard module. Forkbeard requires a iOS or Android app download.

Lyr 5 is priced at $799 in black finish and $829 in silver.

Mesh™ Achievement Unlocked

Mesh Expands to the Entry-Level Schiit Line

December 3, 2025, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Modi 5, our most affordable standalone Mesh™ DAC, and Magni Unity with the all-new Mesh DAC card, for a complete one-box amp/DAC solution. Mesh combines our unique time-and frequency-domain closed-form digital filter with a standard delta-sigma modulator. Modi also includes Unison 384™, Schiit’s unique USB input implementation, and Linear Override™, Schiit’s unique power supply topology providing convenience and performance. Modi 5 is priced at $149 in black finish, $159 in silver. Magni Unity with Mesh DAC is priced at $199 in black, $209 in silver.

“Mesh delivers a DAC that sounds a lot more like our flagship DACs, at a much more affordable price,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s co-founder. “By incorporating a version of our unique digital filter, we’ve achieved a giant leap in performance.”

Mesh™ dramatically reduces the cost of implementing Schiit’s proprietary, closed-form “megacomboburrito” digital filter by implementing it on the same 32-bit microprocessor that enables Unison 384™.

Modi 5 also includes Unison 384, Schiit’s proprietary USB input, and Linear Override, a unique power supply that allows it to be run from a single USB for portability and convenience, or to use an AC wall-wart to override the switching supply with a higher-voltage linear-regulated one, for higher output and additional headroom.

Magni Unity with Mesh DAC provides a single-box desktop amp/DAC system for driving headphones and powered monitors. WIth 2.5W of power into 32 ohms, Magni Unity delivers plenty of power for hard-to-drive headphones, while also providing a vanishingly low noise floor for IEMs.

“We don’t just buy our USB input from someone else, fully done,” said Jason. “Nor do we use the built-in digital filter on a standard DAC. We engineer our power supplies so it’s easy to get improved linear performance. All of this means Modi 5 delivers far above what any other DAC in its price class.”

Modi 5 is available now at schiit.mom.

Jotunheim 3 Launches

One Amp to Rule Them?

November 12, 2025, San Antonio, TX. Today, Schiit Audio introduced Jotunheim 3, an all-new design providing exceptionally high power for the hardest-to-drive headphones, an extremely low noise floor for IEMs, and the flexibility and control needed for both. Debuting Schiit's fully discrete Prime™ topology with Continuity A™ output stage, the new Jotunheim 3 is the highest-performing Jotunheim ever, while delivering natural and dynamic sound. Jotunheim 3 is available as a standalone amp for $499 and as an all-in-one DAC/amp with the optional Mesh™ DAC card at $649.

"I've called Asgard X a 'mini Mjolnir,' and Valhalla 3 a 'mini Folkvangr', but this new Jotunheim is a mini nothin'," said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder. “It delivers high power--6 watts into 32 ohms, 20 volts RMS into higher impedances--and yet has a vanishingly low noise floor though both the balanced and single-ended outputs in low gain mode. So you can really go from the hardest to drive stuff out there to IEMs."

Jotunheim 3 is much more than an update to the 6-year-old Jotunheim 2:

  • It debuts Prime™, our highly refined, fully discrete, current-feedback topology, which provides exceptional measured performance with only 10dB of overall feedback. It also ensures that the single-ended outputs are as noise-free and high-performance as the balanced outputs, so owners have great flexibility to drive almost anything.
  • Jot 3 also uses our new Continuity A output stage, running about 2x more current than any previous Jotunheim. This means it stays in Class A much more of the time than the previous design.
  • We've also added a balanced 4.4mm jack, in addition to the traditional 1/4" single-ended and Neutrik 4-pin balanced connectors.
  • At the same time, we've increased parts quality overall, including high-performance MELF resistors, silicon and film capacitors, in addition to Jotunheim's traditional RK27114 Alps Blue Velvet potentiometer, Neutrik connectors, and sealed precision relay switching.

Jotunheim 3 is available Mesh DAC card with Forkbeard, which brings additional versatility. Mesh combines Schiit's unique  time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter with a standard delta-sigma modulator, for exceptional performance from an affordable DAC. Forkbeard enables app-based control of a 3-band parametric EQ, balance, volume, Loudness, NOS mode, and phase inversion. The Mesh DAC card also includes Schiit's new high-rate Unison 384 USB input.

Continuity A solves the problem of NPN and PNP device mismatch in complementary Class A designs, by running NPN and PNP devices at the same current at the same time on both positive and negative rails. This approach, together with a massively overbuilt parallel architecture—Jotunheim 3 has 12 individual 3A transistors in its output stage—delivers very high performance.

Jotunheim 3 also has the distinction of being the first product made 100% on Schiit's in-house SMD line in Corpus Christi. Schiit's wholly-owned, captive robotic assembly line gives the company greater control of its production, higher quality and exceptional flexibility for the future.

Jotunheim 3 is available now at schiit.mom.

Gungnir 2: Now A Preamp/EQ

Free Forkbeard Update Expands Gungnir 2's Capabilities

June 30, San Antonio, Texas. Gungnir 2 just transformed from "just a DAC" to a full digital preamp, EQ, and DAC, with the release of the latest generation of Forkbeard. This free over-the-air update makes Gungnir 2 into an ideal front-end for a digital-only system—just add an amp and you're ready to drive speakers.

"This is the result of the first significant expansion of the Forkbeard platform," said Martin Schindler, Schiit's head of digital development and Forkbeard architect. "Forkbeard unlocks internal capabilities for advanced control of volume, balance, EQ, loudness, and more."

In November 2024, Schiit introduced the patent-pending Forkbeard platform as the only unified, multi-product, multi-stack control system. Bluetooth-based Forkbeard requires no pairing, no account creation, no wifi connection, and Schiit has promised that all future upgrades to the apps will be free.

"People are done with info-grabbing and revenue extraction," said Jason Stoddard. "So we don't collect data, we don't require an account, and we give you all Forkbeard upgrade capabilities for free—including some amazingly large upgrades like this one."

The Forkbeard 1.2 update adds the following capabilities to Gungnir 2

  • Volume Control
  • Balance Control
  • Loudness
  • 5-Band Parametric EQ

All functions are completely defeatable if the Gungnir 2 owner wants to use the DAC as "just a DAC." All functions are disabled unless a Forkbeard module is plugged into Gungnir 2, to preserve the integrity of the original recording.

"Now you have many more options to create an integrated stack," said Jason. "Forego the analog preamp entirely, stack Gungir 2 and Wotan, and still get Visual Volume. Or choose any other amp. Or add Stjarna as a phono preamp and a Freya+, while still retaining full visibility and control.

Forkbeard supports iOS and iPadOS devices. An Android app is in process.

Asgard X: Class A...Plus!

Schiit Introduces “Mini Mjolnir” and Optional Mesh™ DAC Card with Forkbeard™

June 11, 2025, San Antonio, TX. Today, Schiit Audio introduced Asgard X, an all-new, zero-feedback Class A headphone amp and preamp, as well as an optional Mesh™ DAC card with Forkbeard™ to create an ultra-flexible all-in-one desktop audio control center. Asgard X debuts Continuity A, an all-new, perfectly complementary, Class A output stage. Asgard X is available now from $399 and the Mesh/Forkbeard DAC card is available now at $150 at schiit.mom.

“In June 2010, we shipped our first order for the original Asgard” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder and designer of Asgard X. “Many in the industry thought we were crazy, providing such a high-quality product at such a low price, and selling direct. Today, however, we are one of the US’s leading audio companies.”

Stoddard states that he wanted to do something special for the 15th anniversary, including reviving the iconic Asgard, and introducing a new DAC card to bring Schiit’s entire modular lineup into the Forkbeard universe.

“We named it ‘Asgard X’ during development because it was so experimental, so out there,” said Jason. “We went through five iterations to bring as much as possible of Mjolnir 3 to this new Asgard. And we got very close!”

Asgard X, in fact, uses the same zero-feedback topology of Mjolnir 3, including the exact same discrete front end, with the exact same parts. However, to drastically shrink the Asgard X, an all-new output stage was needed: Continuity A™.

Continuity A solves the problem of NPN and PNP device mismatch in complementary Class A designs, by running NPN and PNP devices at the same current at the same time on both positive and negative rails. This approach, together with a massively overbuilt parallel architecture—Asgard X has 12 individual 3A transistors in its output stage—results in something much more practical than Mjolnir 3’s all-out single-ended Class A design. The result is an amp that actually has more output power than a Mjolnir 3, in a much smaller, cooler-running product.

"By eliminating the mismatch between NPN and PNP devices in Continuity A, we've arguably created something even better than traditional complementary Class A topologies," Jason commented. "But stating that outright is being hyperbolic, and I'd still argue that single-ended, single-device-type, current-sourced Class A topologies like Mjolnir 3 have the overall edge."

Also debuting with Asgard X is the Mesh DAC card with Forkbeard, which brings Schiit’s new Mesh DAC (combining their unique time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter with a standard delta-sigma modulator) and Forkbeard control system to the desktop for the first time. On the Mesh DAC card, Forkbeard enables app-based control of a 3-band parametric EQ, balance, volume, Loudness, NOS mode, and phase inversion. The Mesh DAC card also includes Schiit's new high-rate Unison 384 USB input.

“The Mesh/Forkbeard DAC is also compatible with every Schiit modular product ever made,” said Jason. “This means every Jotunheim and Jotunheim 2, Asgard 3, Asgard Piety, Lyr 3, and Ragnarok—they can all use this card. They can go high-rate, they can be Meshed, and they can all be part of the growing Forkbeard universe. ”

Asgard X and the Mesh DAC Card are available now at schiit.mom.

Valhalla 3: Fully Modern

Introducing the Fully Modern Tube Headphone Amp

May 1, San Antonio, Texas. Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Valhalla 3, a pure triode, OTL/OCL, Class A headphone amplifier and preamp with fully modern features that enhance its performance with hard-to-drive headphones, and provide advanced fault protection. Valhalla 3 is priced at $499.

"Valhalla 3 replaces Valhalla 2, the longest-running product in Schiit Audio's history," said Jason Stoddard, Schiit's Co-Founder. "And, other than the tube complement, it's a completely different product, taking advanced features from our limited-run, all-out Folkvangr headphone amp."

Like Folkvangr, Valhalla 3 is an OTL/OCL, or Output Transformer-Less and Output Capacitor-Less design. This means the headphones are directly connected to the cathodes of the tubes, with no transformer or capacitor in the signal path. This extremely uncommon topology is usually reserved only for cost-no-object designs.

Also like Folkvangr, Valhalla 3 includes a switchable impedance multiplier, to help improve performance with low-impedance, hard-to-drive headphones. Using an impedance multiplier ensures the tubes are still connected to, and driving, the headphones, unlike a more typical high-current buffer.

"Valhalla 3 is essentially a mini-Folkvangr," said Jason. "It's the same idea, made much more desk-friendly."

Valhalla 3 exceeds Folkvangr in one aspect: it has three gain levels, including a no-feedback setting. This allows greater compatibility with a wider range of headphones, with zero-feedback giving highest gain for high-impedance headphones.

Valhalla 3 also includes modern protection features, including delayed start-up, fast shut-down, and continuous analog-computer style DC sensing and disconnect. Combined with the convenience of a filtered preamp output, Valhalla 3 can serve as the centerpoint of an entire desktop system, including headphones and active speakers.

Finally, Valhalla 3 significantly enhances the style of Schiit's mid-sized headphone amps, including a thermal tray design that both looks good and provides additional cooling. Like all Schiit products, Valhalla 3 is produced in the USA via precision stamping and forming, a more efficient and sustainable process than milling a solid block of aluminum.

Valhalla 3 is available now at schiit.mom.

Mimir: Mesh™...and More

The First Mesh DAC is also a Full Digital Preamp with Forkbeard

April 24, 2025, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Mimir, our first Mesh™ DAC that combines our unique time-and frequency-domain closed-form digital filter with a standard delta-sigma modulator. Mimir also debuts the next generation of Forkbeard, enabling full digital preamp functionality. Finally, Mimir includes Unison 384™, Schiit’s unique USB input implementation. Mimir is priced from $299 without Forkbeard, and $349 with Forkbeard.

“Mesh delivers a DAC that sounds a lot more like our flagship True Multibit and Multiform DACs, at a much more affordable price,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s co-founder.

“Mesh is a big deal by itself,” Jason added. “Even without talking about Forkbeard. Now, we’ve decoupled Schiit’s affordable DAC performance from off-the-shelf D/A converters, creating something completely unique.”

Mimir also debuts significant new Forkbeard capabilities. When a standard Forkbeard module is added to Mimir, it becomes a full digital preamp and EQ. Volume, balance, a 3-band parametric EQ, Loudness preset, and full DAC remote control functionality, including NOS filter switching and absolute phase inversion are all controllable via the Forkbeard app.

"Even though it took us a bit to get there, I think we can all be really proud of this one. Not only is Mimir the most innovative digital product we’ve ever done apart from Forkbeard, it also sounds great," said Martin Schindler, Schiit's Head of Digital Development and architect of Forkbeard. "Crazy to think that this little mid-range DAC is our tech leader, but also really fitting."

By adding full digital preamp capabilities, Forkbeard has significantly changed Mimir's applications.

“It's a gateway to simpler, less costly integrated systems,” commented Jason. “Stack a Mimir and a Gjallarhorn F, and you have a full Forkbeard integrated system for $698.”

There are many times when an analog preamp is desired--for extra gain, ability to add analog inputs such as a turntable, or precision, truly lossless volume control. In these instances, the Saga 2 provides relay ladder attenuation, zero-feedback gain, and full Forkbeard integration, from $279.

Mimir also includes Linear Override™, a unique power supply that allows it to be run from a single USB for portability and convenience, or to use an AC wall-wart to override the switching supply with a higher-voltage linear-regulated one, for higher output and additional headroom.

Mimir includes 4 digital inputs, including Unison 384 USB, AES, coax, and optical. Mimir’s outputs include both balanced XLRs and single-ended RCAs.

Like Gungnir 2, Mimir is updatable over the air via the Forkbeard app, so if new capabilities are added, there’s no need to send the product in for upgrade. Gungnir 2 will be also be getting the new Forkbeard digital preamp capabilities shortly, estimated by the first week of May.

Yggdrasil is also slated for Forkbeard enabling and significant upgrades. The Yggdrasil Owners’ Priority Upgrade Program allows current Yggdrasil owners to select their desired upgrades, which are expected in August 2025.

Mimir is available now at schiit.mom.

Forkin' Phono!

Schiit Announces Stjarna and Skoll F, Forkbeard™-Enabled Phono Preamps

February 19, San Antonio, TX. Schiit Audio extends its Forkbeard range with the addition of the Stjarna and Skoll F phono preamps. Stjarna, an all-out, limited-production all-tube design, offers top-of-class performance from a tube phono preamp. Skoll F adds Forkbeard to Schiit's popular all-discrete, zero-feedback, high-voltage-rail phono preamp. Stjarna is $1599 and Skoll F is $449, both including Forkbeard. Both products can also be ordered without Forkbeard, saving $50.

"Stjarna is our ultra-high-end all-tube phono preamp," said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio's Co-Founder. "It's 100% pure Class A triode gain, no step-up transformer, no JFET pre-preamp, no hidden sand. And with up to 60dB of gain, Stjarna can handle both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges with ease."

Stjarna's design includes discrete high voltage regulation, regulated tube heaters, full dual mono construction back to the AC socket, and a host of precision relay-switched loading, gain, and input options. The RIAA stage is fully passive and uses exotic 1% film capacitors and 0.1% resistors for exceptional accuracy.

In addition, Stjarna includes full IR remote control for all functions, including a standby mode that puts the tubes into complete shutdown--no anode voltage, no tube heater--to save power and conserve tube life when not in use. Stjarna also includes Schiit's exclusive Forkbeard unified control system, which provides complete system control, health metrics, and inter-product features when used with additional Schiit devices.

"Skoll F is Skoll...with Forkbeard," Jason explained. "We took Skoll, which already had microprocessor control and a remote, and gave you the option of adding Forkbeard for system-wide integrated control."

Skoll F is a highly capable, fully balanced, fully discrete, JFET-input, Class A, no-feedback, high-rail-voltage phono preamp that offers even higher performance and more gain than Stjarna. With a low noise floor and up to 70dB of gain, and the ability to accept balanced inputs, Skoll offers the highest price/performance ratio in phono preamps.

Stjarna and Skoll F extend Schiit's unique Forkbeard system to 10 products. Forkbeard is the first multi-product, multi-stack unified audio control system. Forkbeard provides unified control of multiple products in multiple systems, additional functionality such as instant power output and system health metrics, and advanced inter-product features for better understanding and optimization of an audio system. Forkbeard™ Launches

The System for Unified Control, Better Visibility, and System Optimization

November 20, San Antonio, TX. Schiit Audio announces the immediate availability of a range of Forkbeard-enabled products, Forkbeard modules, and the Forkbeard iOS app. Forkbeard is the first multi-product, multi-stack unified audio control system. Forkbeard provides unified control of multiple products in multiple systems, additional functionality such as instant power output and system health metrics, and advanced inter-product features for better understanding and optimization of an audio system. Forkbeard is available on products from $329, and the Forkbeard module is $50.

“Forkbeard allows us to answer questions that challenge all audio manufacturers,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder. “Questions like 'is this amp enough for my speakers,' and 'how far can I turn up the volume?' It sounds simple, but really, those are two top questions that are surprisingly difficult to answer. Forkbeard correlates the actual gain of the system, the operating conditions of the amplifier, and the instant power output to provide real answers in real time."

Stoddard refers to Visual Volume™, a unique feature that is enabled when a customer creates a system with a Forkbeard-enabled DAC, preamp, and amp. This shows "caution" and "clipping" ranges on the volume control at all times, and dynamically updates based on the system mode and amplifier.

However, Forkbeard has a myriad of uses, even if used on a single product:

  • Forkbeard allows total control of all products in all stacks, including volume, input select, output mode, gain, standby mode switching, feedback switching, mute, and more.
  • Forkbeard also provides system health information, including temperature, current, triggered protection, tube heater integrity, and more.
  • Inter-product coordination provides for much more advanced features, such as Visual Volume™, that further enhance the experience.

Forkbeard is completely modular and optional. All Forkbeard-enabled products use a single standard external Bluetooth module that plugs into a unique, keyed slot on the back of the product. Products can be ordered without the module, saving $50, or the module can be added later for $50.

Forkbeard sets the standard for ease of setup—just install an app and add nearby Schiit products to one or more “stacks.” No pairing, no account creation necessary.

It also sets the standard for ease of use—all products are displayed in logical order, with most-used controls appearing prominently in a dynamically reconfigurable interface. It easily accommodates a “main listening system,” a “desk system,” and a “bedroom system.”

Forkbeard launches for iOS, supporting both iPhones and iPads. An Android version is planned for the future.

Forkbeard is available on 8 Schiit products to start. This large number of Forkbeard-enabled products allows customers to create systems up and down the line.

Forkbeard-Enabled Products

  • Gungnir 2 Multiform™ DAC
  • Saga 2 Preamp
  • Kara F Nexus™ Preamp
  • Freya+ F Tube Preamp
  • Vidar 2F Power Amp
  • Aegir 2F Continuity™+Halo™ Power Amp
  • Wotan Nexus™ Power Amp
  • Kraken™ 5-Channel Power Amp

Additional Forkbeard-enabled products are coming, including Stjarna, an all-out tube phono amp.

The least expensive Forkbeard-enabled product is Saga 2, at $329. Paired with an $899 Vidar, this creates a very affordable, extremely capable system. On the other side of the spectrum, a Freya+ F, Gungnir 2, and Wotan can be combined into a “gigastack” that still sells for less than $5,000.

Forkbeard products, modules, and systems are available now at schiit.mom. The Schiit Forkbeard app is available now at the Apple App Store.

Forkbeard is patent-pending.

Forkbeard™ Previews

Total Control is Just the Start

November 2, San Antonio, TX. Schiit Audio previewed Forkbeard™, the first multi-product, multi-stack unified audio control system. Available on 8 Schiit products at launch, Forkbeard provides unified control of multiple products in multiple systems, additional functionality such as instant power output and system health metrics, and advanced inter-product features. Forkbeard is optional, uses a single common BLE module, and is controlled by an iOS or iPadOS app. Forkbeard is available on products from $329, and the Forkbeard module is $50.

Forkbeard graphic“Forkbeard is far more than a fancy remote control,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder. “In fact, total control, in one unified and dynamic interface, is just the start. Forkbeard gives our customers the ability to see instant power output of their amps, to check for over-temperature or over-current conditions, to see if the amp is running in Class A, to understand tube integrity and input quality, and, soon, to use advanced inter-product features such as Visual Volume, which shows exactly how much headroom your total system has at any time.”

Forkbeard allows total control of all products in all stacks, including volume, input select, output mode, gain, standby mode switching, feedback switching, mute, and more.

Game Ender: Gunnr

The Most Powerful, Versatile Gaming Interface

October 2, 2024, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio launches Gunnr, the most powerful and versatile gaming interface available anywhere. Featuring up to 2000mW RMS output per channel, exclusive Soundstage Control for hearing into the gaming environment, and the ability to run portably with a single USB-C connection, Gunnr is the best choice for mission-critical gaming. Gunnr is available now at schiit.mom for $229.

“Gunnr replaces Hel,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder. “It’s more powerful, more capable, and more versatile than Hel by any measure.”

Gunnr introduces two exceptional new features: Soundstage Control and Linear Override.

Soundstage Control is an industry-exclusive feature that adds analog Width and Presence knobs to the front panel, for instant, fingertip adjustment of critical parameters that can give a competitive edge.

  • Width expands or contracts the scope of hearing. Turning the knob to the right makes everything sound more expansive, and can help identify sounds that would normally be masked. Turning it to the left blends the channels, which can make music sound more natural on headphones.
  • Presence enhances or suppresses sounds that people are most sensitive to. Turn the knob to the right to bring voices forward, or to hear small disturbances (wind rustling, twigs snapping, guns cocking). Turn to the left to suppress voices, to fix music mixes that are too shouty, or to compensate for headphones with too much midrange.

Linear Override is a first-in-the-industry power supply that allows Gunnr to run with a single USB-C cable (no other external power), for exceptional portability—or the customer can plug in the supplied AC wall power supply, to override the USB power, boost the rails, increase gain, and deliver the full 2000mW of RMS power per channel.

“Whether you’re a gamer or an audiophile, whether you’re using hard-to-drive headphones or IEMs, Gunnr gives you the flexibility you need,” said Jason. “The Width and Presence controls are completely bypassable, if you want a completely pure signal path. There are 3 levels of gain, including negative gain, which means you’ll always have the right gain for any headphone. And you get both USB and optical inputs, as well as an analog preamp output.”

Gunnr also features an all-new chassis with significant refinements, including “fastener-free” design for a sleeker look, and a solid, milled aluminum knob for aesthetics and better feel.

Gunnr is available now at schiit.mom in black finish for $229, including the AC wall power adapter. Customers who don’t need the wall adapter for higher power can choose to go without it and save $15.

A New Saga

Redefines Value for Affordable Preamps

August 14, 2024, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the availability of Saga 2, an all-new, differential, fully discrete, zero feedback, Class A, high-rail-voltage, remote control, relay-potentiometer preamp with headphone output at $279.

“The description sounds pretty much like what you'd expect in a high-end preamp,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s co-founder and head of analog design. “Until you realize it's missing a zero or two off the price tag."

Saga 2 extends the features found on Schiit's previous Saga S and Saga+ preamps, while selling for a lower price. Saga 2 adds balanced outputs, 2 gain settings, and headphone output...at $120 less than the outgoing Saga+.

Despite its low cost, Saga 2 features a full cost-no object design:

  • True differential, fully discrete gain stage
  • Zero feedback, high rail voltage (75V total)
  • Current-sourced, real Class A throughout
  • Two gain settings
  • Pure passive setting
  • 64-step relay attenuator
  • Headphone output
  • Included remote control

"Saga 2 is a great pair with Gjallarhorn, Aegir 2, and Vidar 2," said Jason Stoddard. "It provides two different gain options to accommodate different systems, as well as pure passive mode...and it also has balanced outputs so you can run those amps mono if you want to."

Saga 2 builds on the Equipoise gain stage that was first seen in the Freya+ differential buffer, and was lately used on the Skoll phono preamp. This super-simple gain stage provides exceptional performance for a feedback-free design, and offers extreme headroom with its super-high voltage rails.

An IR remote control is included with Saga 2, as well as an external linear power supply.

Saga 2, like all Schiit products, is designed and built in the USA, with the vast majority of cost going to US companies producing in the USA. For example, its chassis and PC boards are made in California, and everything comes together in our Corpus Christi, Texas facility.

Saga 2 is currently available in black finish only at $279.
